In discharge printing, a printing paste containing a discharge agent is first printed on the ground color, and after drying and steaming, the ground color dye is decomposed and can be washed away.
The process of obtaining white patterns on the ground color with a printing paste containing only a discharge agent is called white discharge printing;
The process of adding a dye that is not affected by the discharge agent and can be dyed on the fiber during the process of steaming and decomposing the ground color dye to the discharge printing paste to print a colored pattern on the ground color is called color discharge printing.
The characteristic of discharge printing is that it can print more delicate patterns on the ground color fabric, with the effect of clear flowers and uniform ground.
The discharge printing discharge agent is usually a reducing agent, and the printing paste can be alkaline or weakly acidic.
Oxidants can also be used as discharge agents, but they are easy to make fibers brittle during drying or steaming, so they are rarely used.
Reduction dyes are commonly used in color discharge printing, and other dyes that can withstand discharge agents can also be used. With the continuous development of pigment printing adhesives, the performance of adhesives is getting better and better, and there are more and more varieties. At the same time, the electrolyte resistance and stability of pigment color paste are becoming more and more perfect. Therefore, the color paste for discharge printing basically uses pigment color paste. For example: cotton fabrics are dyed with reactive dyes for ground color, and then the coating discharge printing paste is used. Silk fabrics are dyed with acid dyes or reactive dyes for ground color, and coating discharge printing paste is also used. Discharge printing of indigo denim also uses coating discharge printing paste, and its discharge white paste uses oxidative discharge agents, namely sodium chlorate, citric acid, urea and acid-resistant paste. After discharge printing, it is generally necessary to wash with water to remove free formaldehyde and environmentally unfriendly discharge agents from the fabric.
The fabric feel and fastness of the coating discharge printing process are not ideal, while the discharge printing of vat dyes is difficult to achieve the requirements for bright colors due to the incomplete color spectrum, complicated process, and the use of a large amount of reducing agent. The discharge printing process of reactive dyes dyeing the base color and printing the color with reactive dyes has achieved good results in printing discharge patterns.
Environmentally friendly coating discharge printing paste is an inevitable trend in the development of discharge printing, because it does not need to be washed with water or soap after printing to achieve formaldehyde-free environmentally friendly products, saving a lot of water and energy, and fully in line with the concept of low-carbon environmental protection economy.
The discharge printing process is complicated, and printing defects are not easy to detect in time, and the cost is also high; but its ground color is rich, the pattern is delicate and precise, and the outline is clear. Its printing effect is not achievable by direct printing and anti-printing printing, so it is often used for printing high-end fabrics.
The patterns suitable for the discharge process are: (1) Printing of large areas of dark ground colors, especially compact fabrics. If the direct printing process is used, even if the ground color depth can be achieved, its uniformity and permeability are difficult to achieve the discharge effect. (2) Patterns with delicate, bright and complex colors can be repeatedly printed on various deep colors, and the outline of the pattern is clear. (3) For fine patterns, if the printing method is directly used with blank space on the ground, the pattern will be distorted; if the anti-printing method is used, the degree of fineness and density will also vary.
